Village Walkers

The Village Walkers meet every Tuesday morning at 1045 am in the car park of the George & Dragon. We aim to get started by 1050.

We have around 60 active ‘members’ and typical walks attract around 20 walkers but our record turnout currently stands at 38. The walk takes place in any weather but it is worth noting that in the 4-5 years we have been active, we have experienced heavy rain only once or twice.

Our regulars come from Alrewas, Lichfield, Fradley, Whittington, and surrounding villages like Wychnor and Edingdale. Curiously, so far no one from our closest neighbours, Kings Bromley, Yoxley and Barton under Needwood.

Normally, we walk for about 6 miles which typically takes a couple of hours returning us to the pub in time to sample their excellent range of ‘light bites’ at ‘credit crunch’ prices and a refreshing drink or two.

For those wanting to walk a shorter distance we usually have several people taking what we call a ‘short walk’ that is at a more leisurely pace and around 2-3 miles.

The first Tuesday of each month features the bus walk where we catch a bus to a local spot and walk back. Because of the extra time needed to travel on the bus, this walk is usually around 5 miles.
